James 1:2-3
"Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance."
The times that I most need to be thankful are the times that my attitude is off. For instance, I have fibromyalgia. When I'm experiencing a bout of pain, I'm not always in the best mood. It is during times of trial that we need to focus all the more on God. With this in mind, as I continue to add my 1,000 things, I will add them to a list of struggles to which those thankful things pertain (see the Labels on the side of this blog).
As another practical application, I have created a list of thankful things for each room of my home. For instance, if I were to encounter a trial while in the bathroom, it would likely be due to a bout of pain from Irritable Bowel Syndrome. That list will have The God of All Comfort on it. If I were struggling in the kitchen, it would likely be that I'm feeling like a martyr, doing dishes for my family. That list would have Family and Opportunity to Serve. You get the idea.
See below for my personal room lists, and see the Resources tab for a template to put in your own rooms. Another possible way to display your room list would be to list the words on a plaque - like the "Live, Laugh, Love" plaques you often see.
I will create labels in this blog that should help to apply each thankful thing. (Most thankful things have multiple labels attached.) Though we all struggle with similar things, each person has their own unique blend of struggles. I encourage you to create your own lists that speak best to your personal trials.
Please feel free to comment and share if God has shown you something through this blog. I also appreciate suggestions of appropriate labels for each of my thankful things.
Remember, "in all things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us." -Romans 8:37
